چکیده

Recently, it has been shown that feature discrimination in temporally regular rhythms results in enhanced performance compared with feature discrimination in temporally irregular rhythms. In this study, we investigated the influence of temporal predictability on attentional processing. We show that temporal predictability of a sequence results in a decreased peak latency of the P3b compared with temporally random sequences. The present findings clearly illustrate that temporal predictability results in faster processing of deviant stimuli.

Cerebellum, temporal predictability and the updating of a mental model.

We live in a dynamic and changing environment, which necessitates that we adapt to and efficiently respond to changes of stimulus form ('what') and stimulus occurrence ('when'). Consequently, behaviour is optimal when we can anticipate both the 'what' and 'when' dimensions of a stimulus. For example, to perceive a temporally expected stimulus, a listener needs to establish a fairly precise inte...

P3b Reflects Periodicity in Linguistic Sequences

Temporal predictability is thought to affect stimulus processing by facilitating the allocation of attentional resources. Recent studies have shown that periodicity of a tonal sequence results in a decreased peak latency and a larger amplitude of the P3b compared with temporally random, i.e., aperiodic sequences. We investigated whether this applies also to sequences of linguistic stimuli (syll...

Neuropsychology and neuropharmacology of P3a and P3b.

Perspectives on the P300 event-related brain potential (ERP) are reviewed by outlining the distinction between the P3a and P3b subcomponents. The critical factor for eliciting P3a is how target/standard discrimination difficulty rather than novelty modulates task processing. The neural loci of P3a and P3b generation are sketched and a theoretical model is developed. P3a originates from stimulus...

Effect of impeller speed on properties of quiescent zone and entrainment in mechanical flotation cells

Flotation process in mechanical cells is carried out in highly turbulent conditions. In this work, the impact of impeller speed on four characteristics of the quiescent zone, i.e. zone height, turbulence, solid percentage, and gas holdup, and their relationship with the entrainment is investigated, and it is shown why at a higher impeller speed, entrainment is not significant. The height of the...

Attentional set shifting modulates the target P3b response in the Wisconsin card sorting test.

For years the Wisconsin card sorting test (WCST) has been used as a test of frontal lobe function. Recent event-related potential (ERP) research has shown large differences in the amplitude of P3b responses evoked by early and late trials within each WCST series ([8]: Barceló F., Sanz M., Molina V., Rubia FJ. The Wisconsin Card Sorting Test and the assessment of frontal function: A validation s...
